A Global Network rooting for biodiversity, food sovereignty, and gender and social justice
The International Analog Forestry Network (IAFN) was founded in 1995 to support the promotion and implementation of Analog Forestry (AF) around the world. Presently, we are working with individuals, communities, collectives and organizations in more than 20 countries, largely in the Global South.
Headquartered in Costa Rica and working with a diverse and international Secretariat team, the network coordinates actions around four strategic areas of work:
- Capacity strengthening for the design, implementation and monitoring of AF projects.
- Implementation of AF projects.
- Strengthening the AF Practitioners’ movement.
- Advocacy to recognize AF a practice for ecosystem restoration and regeneration, centered on gender and social justice.
IAFN’s efforts to multiply the impact of AF are ongoing with the support of over 30 partner organizations in more than 20 countries, six training centers, more than 60 accredited trainers, 40 women promoters, 45 community-led projects supported under the Restore Fund, and regular locally adapted introductory or advanced training opportunities. We are working together for Analog Forestry to attract more funding and attention in order to scale up impacts and support more local organizations in their endeavors to regenerate critical ecosystems while advocating for gender and social justice.
Participatory Governance Structure
Within our network, we place a strong emphasis on fostering a participatory governance structure, centered on the equal and active engagement of our partner organizations. We believe they have a vital role to play in shaping and executing our strategic initiatives and programmatic endeavors. For this, we maintain regular communication with our partners throughout the year, ensuring continuous collaboration and input. Moreover, we host an inclusive Annual General Assembly, extending invitations to all IAFN partner organizations. This assembly serves as a platform for attendees to actively engage with the network, share their perspectives on Analog Forestry and ecosystem restoration within their contexts, and be part of key decision making processes related to IAFN strategy and governance.
