About Nimesh Chathuranga

Nimesh Chathuranga is an environmental researcher deeply engaged in Analog Forestry (AF), sustainable agriculture, and ecosystem restoration. He currently leads research on the Ecosystem Credit Index (ALECI) as part of the AQUAE Impact and EarthRestoration Pvt Ltd project, focusing on validating primary ecosystem services. His work includes seral stage selection for sampling sites using physiognomic formulas and publishing research based on these studies.

Nimesh has significantly contributed to the dissemination of AF knowledge, having facilitated numerous Training of Trainers (ToT) programs—including five in 2020 at Belipola Analog Forest under the mentorship of Dr. Ranil Senanayake. These sessions trained many in sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation. Nimesh’s approach combines research, education, and community empowerment in support of global biodiversity restoration and sustainable forestry.

Focus Areas

My areas of focus include agroecology, biodiversity conservation, primary ecosystem services valuation, and research. Additionally, community education plays a key role in my approach, as I believe in empowering local communities with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and their livelihoods.
